Does Amazon Ship to the Cayman Islands?

The short answer

• Yes, but only for a limited set of items. Since early 2025 Amazon.com ships some products directly to the Cayman Islands, delivered by DHL, with the import duty collected up front at checkout.
• The catch is the selection. Only items sold or fulfilled by Amazon qualify, and much of what a regular shopper actually wants is not eligible. In practice you will find most of your cart cannot be shipped here.
• For most online shopping, a freight forwarder is still the realistic route. Amazon direct is worth checking for the occasional eligible item, not as a replacement for normal shopping. See our shipping to Cayman guide for the forwarder options.
• When it does work, it is simple: free delivery on eligible orders over US$49, duty prepaid, DHL delivers in about two weeks.

The honest answer: it exists, but it is limited

Amazon added the Cayman Islands to AmazonGlobal in early 2025, in the same rollout as Jamaica, the Bahamas, Barbados, and a handful of other Caribbean territories. That part is real and genuinely useful when it works.

The problem is coverage. Only items sold by Amazon (through Amazon Export Sales LLC) or fulfilled by Amazon can ship direct, and a large part of the catalogue, especially third-party Marketplace listings, will not ship to a Cayman address at all. Set your address to Cayman and try to fill a normal cart and you will hit the same wall most people do: item after item comes back as unable to ship to your location, usually only at the final checkout step. Bulky goods, many electronics, and special or restricted products are excluded on top of that.

So treat Amazon direct as a nice bonus for the occasional eligible item, not as a way to shop Amazon the way you would from the US. For the everyday things a forwarder handles without a second thought, a forwarder is still the practical answer.

How to find the items that do qualify

Do not search the full catalogue and hope, because most items will add to your cart and only fail at the final step. The reliable way:

• Set Cayman as your active delivery location using the location pin, not just a saved address in your account.
• Browse Amazon's International Shipping store (its AmazonGlobal section), where the listings are already filtered to items that ship internationally. This is not the same as the separate "Global Store" of imports into the US.
• Check the product page before adding to cart. An eligible item shows a "Deliver to Cayman Islands" line and an Import Fees Deposit estimate. If it says it cannot ship to your location, skip it.
• Favour items sold and shipped by Amazon. Amazon-brand basics and books sold by Amazon are the most consistently eligible; third-party sellers usually are not.

What you pay: item, shipping, and the Import Fees Deposit

Duty is a separate line. When you set a Cayman delivery address, Amazon estimates the import duty and collects it at checkout as an Import Fees Deposit, on top of the item price and shipping. The shipping and handling charge covers delivery only, not duty. The Import Fees Deposit usually appears on the final order-review page rather than in the cart, so advance to that summary to see the full breakdown before you commit.

For items sold by Amazon, the deposit is effectively a cap. If the real duty comes in lower, the difference is refunded automatically, and you are not billed more if it comes in higher. Third-party Marketplace sellers set their own terms, so that guarantee is not universal. Once the deposit is paid, DHL delivers with nothing more to pay.

Free delivery threshold. Eligible items ship free once the order reaches US$49 (about CI$41), whether that is one item of US$49 or several eligible items combined. Only eligible items count toward the US$49, and the import fees are separate and do not count toward it. Free delivery covers standard shipping only, so a faster speed costs extra. Amazon runs this as a promotion it can change or withdraw.

Delivery and clearance. DHL handles the final leg and clears the parcel through Cayman customs, so expect around two weeks rather than US shipping speeds. As with any importer, you need a one-time Customs OnLine System account and a TIN, with DHL named as your clearing agent, or the parcel waits at customs. What to use instead

For everything Amazon will not ship, and that is most of it, a US-mailbox freight forwarder is the standard route: you get a Miami address, ship your US purchases there, and the forwarder air or ocean freights them to Cayman. A few other US retailers also ship direct and handle duty at checkout, notably eBay (through its managed International Shipping programme) and iHerb, which bills duty on arrival. Apple, Walmart, Target, and Best Buy do not ship direct to Cayman and need a forwarder.
